Today I finished up a couple of logos for commission in Adobe Illustrator. They’re basically edits of the logo on this page, which I received in vector form with a list of cities/titles to include in place of the original.

The Fan Favorite gave me a bit of trouble because the lowercase letters needed to be so small in order to fit all of them in, but I like how the first “F” looks on the far left. I’m very happy with the way the New York logo turned out. Hopefully the client will be satisfied with each of them.
After having driven over 850 miles this weekend, I am very glad to be home. My mom had a beautiful three-layer chocolate chocolate cake waiting for me, and it was delicious. Thanks Mom!
I stopped at Alan’s on my way back to give him his SUPER LATE Christmas present (a huge knotted fleece blanket). I think he liked it. I’ll be driving back again next weekend to hang out with him, Kris, Craig, and some of Alan’s other friends, so I didn’t stay for very long today, but it was good to have a conversation in person. :-)
Now…sleep, I think. It’s been a busy weekend, and I am exhausted.

Today Colleen and I dyed yarn. We tried two different methods: kool-aid powder in the crock pot and liquid food dye in the stove pot. I love the way the yarn with the food dye turned out. The kool-aid-dyed yarn looks cool too, more fun to look at, but the liquid dye is just beautiful. I’m so happy with the results.

We also dyed a skein of pink/yellow, a red/orange, and some rainbow patterns. Unfortunately, red yarn does not seem to want to photograph well in tungsten light. I’ll try to take some more pictures tomorrow in the daylight.
Some process photos:
Inside the pot is the mixture of dye, water and vinegar. Such a professional setup, I know. :-) This is when we were working on the blue colorway, which ended up being one of my favorites.
The yarn hanging in the shower to dry. We had already taken down one skein because it was dry, but it was still pretty crowded up there! You can see some of the reds and rainbows that I didn’t get a chance to photograph. Here you can also see the difference between the kool-aid dye (far left) and the food dye (middle two skeins).
The dry skein, post-winding. Isn’t it beautiful? I just love it. It’s hard to tell in the picture, but what looks like white yarn is actually grey.
Colleen, with Teagan. So cute!
All in all, it was a fun day of dyeing. I’ll admit I had my doubts when Colleen first posed the idea to me, but I absolutely loved what we came up with, and I will probably dye a lot of my own yarn from now on. It’s surprisingly easy!

Today I made a simple logo design. With the exception of some class projects in college, I’ve been marking all of my artwork with this logo since I was in the fourth grade. Until now, I had never gotten around to digitizing it. It’s basically just my initials, arranged in a way that I find simple and pleasing.

Tonight Colleen took me out for a nice birthday dinner at a seafood restaurant. It was DELICIOUS. I love tapas restaurants because you can try so many different things. My favorites were the pan-seared tuna and the shrimp fondue. After that we went to her friend’s house and played Rock Band — for my first time, I think I did really well! Tomorrow we’ll be dyeing yarn… I’m excited. Expect pictures!

EDIT: Sometimes, like today, it’s just not going to be possible to get something done and online before midnight. I WILL post every day, but I’m not going to set a midnight deadline. Instead, I will set a bedtime deadline. :-)

In honor of my 24th birthday, I decided to paint a 24-layer cake. I added a tiny girl and a fluffy orange cat. :-D Sketched in pencil and painted in watercolor.

I’m excited to kick off this project! I hope to include some sort of bloggy paragraph each day, in addition to the Thing I Made. Right now I am rushing around trying to get ready to drive to Chicago to see Driftless Pony Club play. After that I’m spending the weekend in Iowa with my friend Colleen. We’ll be dyeing yarn, so I will be posting pictures of that soon!

EDIT: Rookie mistake! I put “.com” in the watermark instead of “.net”… haha. It’ll probably be a few days before I switch that back, since I didn’t save the layered file. Whoops!
