014: The Moby Moby Dick Tones

by Monica on March 25, 2010

Yesterday several people pointed out that John also has a SECOND favorite band name…The Moby Moby Dick Tones.  Which spawned this:

You can click the image to see it full size. It was a bit hastily thrown together, but I think I got the point across.  :-)  Thanks a heap to Valerie, the human wiki of all things nerdfighter, for the Hank-heart image!

Oh and here’s the source image:

Tomorrow: Attending a talk given by Scott Monty in Grand Rapids.  I’m excited.

To thank John for tweeting about this 365 project, I made him this (click to enlarge):

Hope everyone’s having a happy Tuesday!

012: Self-Portrait (My Life)

by Monica on March 23, 2010

Today I sketched a self-portrait while hanging out at my favorite coffeeshop.  I think it’s pretty accurate:

011: Cereal Box House…and guest.

by Monica on March 23, 2010

Today I made a tower of cereal boxes for my pandas to live in.  Unfortunately, someone else seemed to think it was made for him… enjoy the pics, because this wasn’t planned!!

In other news…GO SPARTANS!  I was jumping up and down in front of the tv, shouting the entire final two minutes. It was amazing. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more exciting game.

010: Noro Silver Thaw Mittens

by Monica on March 23, 2010

Snow, so, no Chicago.  Sad.   But it did allow me to finish the mittens!  I’m proud of them.  It’s a simple pattern, but they’re my first pair.  <3

It’s been a pretty low key Saturday.  I’d planned to be away, so I just spent the whole day watching movies on TV and knitting.  MLIA, I know.  ;-)

009: Panda Doodle

by Monica on March 23, 2010

I worked on the mitten some, and I doodled this little guy in between sending work-related emails:

If it snows tomorrow (as predicted) then I probably won’t be able to make it down to Chicago for Alan’s mini-gathering.  Actually, if it’s just snow I’ll probably go, but it’s supposed to be this rainysnow snowyrain crap, perfect for creating black ice and car crashes.  So….yeah that’s not looking very promising.  :-(  I’m bummed.

008: My First Mitten

by Monica on March 19, 2010

Today I made 95% of my first-ever knit mitten.  It’s a super easy pattern, but I’m proud of it so far!  I just need to sew up the top and then finish the thumb.  Easy.  Here’s what it looks like so far:

Knit with Noro Silver Thaw. So pretty.  I’ll take better quality pictures once both mittens are done.  Tonight I’m just iSight-ing it up.  :-)

Today was busy, but good.  I had a long conversation with Hank about working from home, VidCon, and the future of DFTBA Records. The convo turned into a pretty interesting project that I’m excited to start working on.

I expect tomorrow to be very busy, between catching up with John, who has been in New York for the last couple of days, and preparing to be gone for the weekend to Chicago again.  I bought supplies for glass tile pendants that I had wanted to make before I left for the weekend, but I’m not sure I’ll be able to fit them into the schedule tomorrow.  They do require quite a few hours of drying time in between coats of gloss (I just wrote goats of closs) so I can always do my other work in between coats.  I hope.

Also:  I’m excited for March Madness.  GO SPARTANS!

Hah. Just kidding. It’s regular origami.

I found an old day-by-day sudoku calendar from 2006 or 2007 that I had stopped using in July of that year. So today I filled in a bunch of puzzles and then folded them into new and interesting shapes. You can find instructions on how to make all of them here.

Then, while I had the camera out, I took some photos of Remus:

I love my kitty.  At the end he just sort of looked up at me like “Are you done yet?”

Today was a pretty low-key day.  Finished work early and spent the rest of the day knitting, filling out sudoku puzzles, and learning how to fold them into cool origami shapes.

006: Knit Bag (Progress)

by Monica on March 17, 2010

Today I started knitting a bag with the colorful yarn I mentioned in yesterday’s post.  For the knitters out there, I’m using Noro Taiyo yarn, Color No. 5.  Here’s a picture I took with my phone that I sent to Chellie yesterday:

And here’s a picture of my progress, which I took with my iSight camera:

It’s going to be a pretty simple bag; the finishing is going to depend greatly on how much yarn I have left when it is bag-sized.  :-)  And of course I will block it to get rid of the curling it’s doing right now.  Sewing the bottom will help, too.

005: T-Shirt Design (Commission)

by Monica on March 16, 2010

Today I made another piece for the sports apparel client.  It is likely that I will continue to make these throughout the week, but I also have some other projects planned.  Here’s today’s Thing:

Today I met a friend for coffee, which was fun. I hadn’t seen her since my high school graduation six years ago, but now we’re living somewhat close to each other, so hopefully we will continue to hang out.  After that I pretty much just worked for the rest of the afternoon.

Oh! And I bought yarn!  It’s beautiful, colorful Noro yarn that I am super excited to start knitting. (I actually started knitting with one of the skeins I bought, but then I realized it was 40% cotton, which means it has NO stretch which means I can’t actually knit what I had planned to make with it.  But that’s okay. I’ll use it for something else. And then I will show you pictures!)

House, MD was kind of a freaky episode tonight.  I think it was the first one in that series to have a TV-14 warning. (Definitely necessary IMHO.)  BUT IT WAS SO GOOD.

Okay, that’s all for tonight.  Thanks for reading!
